Video Touring a Home’s Garage? Here Are the Questions To Ask Your Agent

Video became the go-to method for touring homes during the pandemic—and they continue to be a popular option, both for buyers who are shopping for a home from a distance or who aren’t comfortable touring homes in person quite yet.
And while a video tour can be a great way to get a feel for a property, there are certain questions you’ll want to ask to make sure you get the details you need to make a purchasing decision—and that includes in the garage.
A recent article from realtor.com outlined the questions buyers should ask when taking a video tour of a home’s garage, including:
- Will my cars fit in this garage? The whole point of having a garage is to be able to park your cars inside. So, the last thing you want is to buy a house—only to find out that your garage is too small for your cars. Make sure to ask your agent to measure the garage—and then compare those measurements to the size of your cars to make sure they’re the right fit.
- Is the garage floor in good shape? When you’re on a video tour, it can be hard to tell the condition of the garage’s floor. Ask your agent to show you the garage floor up close—and also ask if they can spot any spills, stains, or other issues with the flooring.
- What kind of garage door is it? There are a huge variety of garage doors—and before you commit to buying a house, you’ll want to know what kind of door your potential garage has. Ask your agent for details on the door; do you have to open it manually? Does it open with a remote? If the garage door is remote-controlled, is there a battery backup (so you can open the door in case of a power outage)?
